Faces of the Canaanites and Israelites

Article Abstract:

The University of Pennsylvania's Museum, the Applied Science Center for Archeology, has a permanent exhibit on Canaan and Ancient Israel which features artifacts from the archeological site of Tel Beth Shean. The pieces on display document the sharing of artistic styles from Egypt, the Near East and Greece during the period when Bronze Age Canaan came to an end and the biblical Iron Age kingdoms of Israel and Judah came into existence.

Knowing Brenda

Article Abstract:

A woman recalls how her cousin Brenda, despite her physical handicap, was able to touch the lives of each member of their family. Struck with an acute spinal canal infection at six months old that killed her twin sister and left her nearly lifeless herself, Brenda was able to show her family that her existence could not be defined either by limitations of birth or accidents.

Fall feasting

Article Abstract:

The enjoyment brought from six autumn harvests are discussed. Enjoyed were varieties of mushrooms gathered in Italy, ice wine made in Germany, samma fish home cooked in Japan, hazelnuts eaten in Oregon, cider found in an English pub, and games and small birds cooked and enjoyed in Paris, France.
