Guns of Sandy Hook: how America caught up with world powers on the Jersey shore
Article Abstract:
Sandy Hook, New Jersey is a narrow, five-mile split of rolling dunes and beaches that is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and is across the harbor from Manhattan and Coney Island. The peninsula's first military use dates back to the American Revolution, when the British fortified Sandy Hook with redoubts of timber and earth, which were sufficient to hold it despite attempts by the rebels to knock the lighthouse.

Native wonders of Middle America

'Hero, Hawk, and Open Hand', an exhibition held at the Art Institute of Chicago on March 4 to May 30, 2004 presented works of American Indian art of the ancient Mid-west and Southeast. The exhibition brings together artifacts made by the diverse cultures that inhabited the Cahokia forests and plains between 5000 B.C.
