In the valley of the eagle

Article Abstract:

A secret alliance was made between the rulers of the Yolung clan of the central Tibetian plateau and the chiefs of the other clans in the 6th century AD, promising that they would never quarrel among themselves and would accept one of their members as their emperor. They later destroyed the power of Zhang-Zhung, a shadowy polity which ruled much of the Tibetan plateau and Kyuinglung which means 'valley of eagle' was made the capital of Zhang-Zhung.

Caves as sacred places on the Tibetan plateau

Article Abstract:

Many caves both natural and artificial are used for domestic purposes and shelters by monks, lamas and other religious figures and are key elements in the sacred geography of Tibetan Buddhism, Caves serve as symbolic foundations for temples, shrines and monasteries and have interesting archaeological implications for both lay people and religious figures.

The heart of creation, the heart of darkness: Sacred caves in Mesoamerica

Article Abstract:

The Mesoamerica caves were used exclusively for ritual and believe that the caves are sacred spaces that materialize cosmology. The discovery of large artifacts assemblages in caves shows the importance of sites as religious spaces.
