Minoan fresco connections

Article Abstract:

Fresco fragments found at Tell Kabri in Israel share many images with Minoan frescoes from the Aegean, especially those from Akrotiri on the island of Thera, suggesting trade connections between the Canaanites and Minoans during the late Middle Bronze Age. The shared fresco motifs include a checkerboard floor pattern, floral motifs, a house and a flying swallow.

The surge in Minoan forgeries after Arthur Evans' excavations of the palace at Knossos captured the imagination of the public is described. Private collectors and musums eager to own Minoan pieces fostered the activities of illicit excavators, smugglers, and of forgers, and even Arthur Evans was duped.
