Talking with Charles Burnett

Article Abstract:

Charles Burnett has written or directed nine features for television and cinema, including his thesis project film, 'Killer of Sheep, which won him an award from the UCLA of School of Film and Television, and the 1990 Danny Glover-film 'To Sleep with Anger.' The theme of Burnett films are usually about the contemporary life of African Americans in the neighborhoods of Los Angeles, CA, as he believes in writing, thus, exposing the threatened ways of life.

Eccentricity and indulgence in autocratic rulers

Article Abstract:

A human actor model and a wealth-and-power-maximization model were constructed to test whether rulers exhibit eccentric and sexually indulgent behavior that disrupts the pursuit of power and riches depending on their political circumstances and the nature of their rise to power. The model used data on the Ming dynasty emperors of China, French rulers from Charles VII, the Mugal emperors of India and the Ottoman sultans.

Manufacturers' lament

Article Abstract:

Australian policymakers who hope for a dramatic revitalization of the nation's manufacturing base are likely to be disappointed. Australia's labor-intensive manufacturers will be supplanted by Asian competitors, but the loss in jobs will be compensated for by growth in the nation's service economy.
