A recent incident reveals the discontent in Irian Jaya, formerly a Dutch colony which has been under Indonesian control since 1963. Irian Jaya is one of the most underdeveloped areas in the world. The Irianese object to the Indonesian plan to emigrate one million people from Java and Bali to their island by 1988. Speculation is made on Indonesia's long range plans for the area.
