Warriors of Paros: Soldiers' burials offer clues to the rise of classical Greek city-states

Article Abstract:

Excavation of an ancient cemetery in Paroikia led to the discovery of cremated remains of soldiers who died in a battle around 730 B.C, which offers evidence for the development of classical Greek city-states. The remains were found in large vases that were placed in two monumental tombs.

A brief career profile of Larissa Bonfante, a New York University classics professor who is the recipient of the Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement, is presented. She has been greatly acknowledged for her research on the Etruscan civilization.

Cult of the kiln; an Etruscan potters' furnace yields evidence of ritual in the making of ceramics

Article Abstract:

The excavation of an Etruscan kiln in Italy yielding evidence of the cult practices accompanying the practice. The remains of an ancient terra-cotta loom indicated a possible community of artisans.
