Diminutive designs: scale-model Windsors

Article Abstract:

Gerald Headley, a retired optician, started his woodworking hobby by making a spoon rack for his wife Charlotte. Headley's current focus is on making quarter-scale replicas of American Windsor chairs. He has so far produced models in 45 styles and variations for family, friends and clients.

A daring endeavour

Article Abstract:

A replica of Lt James Cook's ship, the HM Bark Endeavour, was commissioned in 1994 and has since then, traveled 30,000 nautical miles and visited five countries. The presence of the original specifications in British archives allowed its construction and operation as an 18th-century vessel.

Historic bedcoverings in brief

Article Abstract:

Bed rugs, coverlets and pieced quilts are some of the bedcoverings predominant from colonial times until the mid-19th century. Blue and brown were the most prevalent colors for bed rugs, while whitework coverlets, spreads and quilts from 1790 to 1840 were inspired by classic designs.
