A late 18th-century New England gem

Article Abstract:

A house plan inspired by the design of the Julia Wood House in Falmouth, MA, is presented under the History Houses series. Built in 1790, it has architectural details from the Georgian, Federal and early Classical Revival periods. Its adaptation features a roofline with two dormers and a two-story porch.

A weekend at the beach

Martha Bedford's house in Bellport, NY, is a prime example of an English cottage. The original house was built in 1893, which Bedford restored and furnished with a wide range of 19th century wood and metal furniture.
