Apothecary shop in Alexandria, Virginia
Article Abstract:
Edward Stabler's apothecary shop in Alexandria, VA, the second of its kind in the country, was one of the first shops which offered herbal cures for popular ailments. Stabler left the shop to his sons, but the Depression in the 1930s led to its closure. It was converted into a museum by the Landmarks Society of Alexandria.

Tribal treasures
Article Abstract:
Various art works in the form of buckles, brooches, bracelets, daggers and horse trappings were fashioned by barbarian tribes during the Dark Ages. These items symbolized status, power and cultural values. A collection of such objects is on display at the Ariadne Galleries, New York, NY.

Maine's old-time York

The warmth and simplicity of 18th-century America has been preserved in York, ME. Its streets are lined with houses from the 1800s, with some restored structures dating back from the early 1700s. York was formed in 1630 by a group of settlers from Bristol, England.
