Article Abstract:

Landeshauptstadt Hannover wanted an international architect with expertise in environmentally sensitive design which will be the focus of the Expo 2000 project. The group chose William McDonough Architects because of the company's commitment to this cause. The project involves the formulation ofthe Hannover Principles which emphasize the sustainable principles of the project design and address the environmental concerns of the host town. The project also entails the application of these design concepts which can alter the design approach of architects.

Article Abstract:

D.E. Shaw & Co's two-storey office in midtown Manhattan was designed by Steven Holl Architects. Steven Holl had to work with a $700,000 budget and focused on developing a concept apt for the computer services firm. The 12,000-sq ft office space have white walls with the waffle ceilings left exposed and simple modular furniture arranged in the rooms. The reception area has notched cut-outs on the walls with the backs painted with fluorescent colors reflected by natural light in the daytime and fluorescent lamps at night.

Article Abstract:

William McDonough's commitment to the development ofenvironmentally friendly designs qualified him for the Eurosud-Calvisson project of Eurosud B.V. The client wanted a design which combined high technological features with environmental qualities and was impressed with McDonough's extensive knowledge on the subject. McDonough incorporated old and new technologies and created a design which is cost-effective, environment-friendly, innovative and up-to-date.
