Designer of the year

Article Abstract:

Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc.'s (HOK) Juliette Lam was named Interiors magazine's 1993 Designer of the Year. She started working with HOK in 1991 after design firm PHH Corp was acquired by her present company. Lam worked as an interior designer and eventually became one of HOK's five major principals. She has not only proven her ability in commercial design work but has shown her flair in marketing and administration. Among her projects for HOK were those for Kuwait's National Assembly Building, Leslie Fay Companies, Partners & Shevack Advertising, Dentsu, Chemical Bank, American Insurance Group, and Columbia Presbyterian East Medical Offices.

Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Assoc (HHPA) of New York, NY, has established itself as a progressive architectural firm. HHPA designs are characterized by a fusion of geometric patterns, unfinished materials, exposed building systems and an emphasis on functionality. The partners also practice interior design which reflects and enhances their type of architecture and do not depend on design trends. They design buildings that will blend with the existing environment and have honed their craft especially in the craetion of structures for artistic fields.

Up in a down market: at the start of '92, Neil Frankel projects an optimistic future for Perkins & Will

Article Abstract:

Neil Frankel, the interior design principal and senior vice president of the architectural firm Perkins and Will, has moved from the firm's Chicago office to its New York headquarters. From there he will oversee projects in the Middle East and Germany. Perkins and Will has merged with the German firm JSK International to take advantage of the expanding market in Germany. The firm's long range strategy is to keep its practice diversified, as reflected in its acquisition of the health care-oriented firm Russo Sonders.
