Font licensing made simple

Article Abstract:

There are several types of font licensing. Generally, fonts are licensed for use on a maximum of five workstations or CPUs with no restrictions on the number of allowed printers attached to the CPUs. Smaller entities, however, license their font designs on a per workstation basis with no limit on the number of printers accessed to it. The price of font licenses range between $20 and $40 with discounts available for quantity purchases. Upgrades of the licenses purchased usually range about half of a third of the original price.

A font that can tell the weather

Article Abstract:

A digital interactive typeface Twin developed for a local graphic competition by Erik van Blokland and Just van Rossum, co-founders of the Dutch design firm, LettError is designed to change in response to real-world factors like temperature fluctuations and traffic conditions. The typeface on one page reacts to the Twin cities (of Minneapolis and St. Paul) temperature whereby when it is 10 degrees below zero the characters are formal; if it reaches 100 they'll be informal.

Article Abstract:

Anton "Tony" Majeri Jr.'s life and works are discussed. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Society for New Design's (SND) Annual Awards dinner in San Jose, California on October 2, 2004. SND president Susan Mango Curtis says that Tony is a person of strong moral convictions, unimpeachable ethics and possessed an unrelenting drive to help others succeed.
