Spring in Iowa's heartland

Article Abstract:

There are different historic sites that can be seen along a route from Davenport to Winterset in Iowa. These include unique communities, such as the Amish and Mennonite settlements in Kalona and the communal villages in Amana. There are also restored historic buildings and museums.

Old Stone Fort Museum

Article Abstract:

The museum was originally a church which was turned into one of three forts in the region during the Revolutionary War. It became the Lower Fort and served as the last stronghold of defense against the British and their sympathizers. It has been operated as a museum since 1889.
