A fair fight

Article Abstract:

It is expected that either Cologne or Milan will stage the Grand European Furniture Fair. However, the way in which some retailers sell their furniture, such as IKEA, may not be adaptable to Milan's high style. The industry in Milan has been looking at new markets and many established companies have left gaps which have been filled be newcomers. Some Italian manufacturers are seeking design talent in Europe, and Italian designers are being inhibited by lack of foreign investment.

Frankfurt Autumn Fair

Article Abstract:

The exhibits of the Frankfurt Autumn Fair of 1992 were influenced by the obsession of Germans with environmental issues and the need to compete with cheap imports by increasing quality. There were few chromium plated exhibits which characterised the 80's. At the German Design Council exhibition, the Federal Prizes for product design went to an Erco light and a Wilkhahn seat.
