Learning from early school records

Article Abstract:

Genealogists can rely on early school records to learn significant things about the past. Although the earliest grammar school in the US is known to have been established in 1635, the oldest account books on record date back to 1676. Dated educational records can usually be found in the archives of libraries and historical societies.

Ancestors in the newspapers

Article Abstract:

Old newspapers are rich sources of vital information about one's ancestors. Prominent people, especially in trade and politics, are certain to have been featured at one time or another in 18th century newspapers, while births, deaths and marriages can be found in 19th- and early 20th-century issues.
