Article Abstract:

The 14th Designer of the Year and Interiors Awards ceremonies at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York, NY, focused on women's contributions to the design profession and their constant struggle to overcome discriminations against them. Former US vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro emphasized the significance of those struggles and recounted her own experiences as she tried to overcome obstacles. Other speakers noted that thereare other matters more important than gender distinctions and that creativity and talent should override gender issues.

Griswold Heckel and Kelly Associates Inc (GHK) used toys as a theme in designing the interiors of the Oakbrook, IL, offices of client Simon Marketing Inc, a promotional items agency. Simon Marketing instructed GHK to duplicate the light, positive and fun atmosphere of their Southern California headquarters offices. Toys provided a visual color theme for the design consistent with the client's instructions and suitable for using economical materials.

Article Abstract:

Estee Hander store has been opened in the GUM department store in Russia. Robert Luzzi, vice-president of creative design, fashioned the store, dividing it into the sales section, skincare consultation, and support area. Luzzi preserved the flooring and painting that existed during Romanov's rule. The color scheme is aimed at striking a balance between emotions and aesthetics.
