Music matters

Article Abstract:

Design professionals of the Walters-Storyk Design Group were commissioned to refurbish two conference rooms of the Mercury Records Masnhattan, NY, offices. The designers were limited by the location of the rooms which were difficult to isolate in terms of acoustics. The main conference room, which was to be used for previewing artists' recordings and videos was designed following irregular room geometry to enhance the sound diffusion while acoustical wall panels are used to absorb excess sounds. In addition, Japanese Almute aluminum panels were chosen for the walls because of their ability to absorb low-frequency sound.
