Article Abstract:

The typographical format and design of the magazines Octovo 6 and Octavo 7 demonstrate how typography has become overdone and gimmicky, to the point where it is illegible. Typecasting does not need to be accurate to a grid and design can be done with freedom, but it should be clear and make maximum use of page space. There are many examples of how typography can be innovative in design, yet be elegant, clear and precise.

Octavo 92.8

Article Abstract:

Octavo, a typographic magazine, has published the eighth and final issue, Octavo 92.8, which is only available on CD-Rom disc, which can only be read on an Apple Macintosh with at least 4 megabytes of memory and peripheral equipment. The magazine examines typographical design issues which are described as thought provoking. The typographical design of the magazine itself, however, is awful.

Monotype Conference, 1992

Article Abstract:

The Monotype Conference was held at the New Queens College buildings in Cambridge and concentrated on Europe, its history, theory and practice of Monotype. It included lecture presentations by James Mosley, Wolfgang Weingart Ken Garland and Andrew Boag. There were also informal seminars, a gala dinner and an exhibitionat the University library.
