The Internet for designers in layman's terms

Article Abstract:

The Internet is an expansive interconnected network of small, territorial computer networks which resulted from a government research initiative conducted in the 1960s. A user can transmit information through the Net's physical digital highway, consisting of connections of computer cable, satellite or regular phone lines, by using a transmission control protocol. A modem, a device which modulates and demodulates a computer's digital information and sends it through analog telephone lines, is needed to physically connect the computer to the Net.

A/E/C Systems 98: a choice in CAD

Article Abstract:

An array of the newest information tools for the design industry, including computer hardware, software and services, was on display at the A/E/C Systems '98 show in Chicago, IL, in June. The highlight of the event, which was attended by more than 18,000 members of the industry, was the launching of Visio's IntelliCAD98 product. IntelliCAD98 is a formidable threat to the dominance of Autodesk's AutoCAD R14, due to its lower price of only $349 per seat compared to AutoCAD's $3,500.
