The Automobile's Future

Article Abstract:

The fate of the automobile industry is closely tied to the world petroleum market. Variations in the price and availability of fuel directly affect supply and demand in the auto industry. Also, as a result of decreasing per capita income, car sales have, for the past four or five years, been down. The United States is going to have to decide what part the automobile is going to be able to play in the total transportation system. The outlook for several economic indicators will have to be studied closely to see what the future holds for the automobile.

When life is more interesting than art

Article Abstract:

The US suburbs are often represented as characterized by alienation and tedium, as is the case in 'American Beauty', yet they are sources of innovation. Silicon Valley and Microsoft are located in the suburbs, and jobs can be dispsed with the help of information technology so there is no need for people to leave them. There are ultra-liberal and blue-collar suburbs, as well as an increasing number which have a social mix. There are also ethnically diverse suburbs, and those where one ethnic group, such as Chinese Americans, predominates.

Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore

Article Abstract:

Alternative officing has erased the notion that office work should be confined to the office. The new definition of officing opens challenges to designers to create a comfortable working environment without reducing employees' productivity. The approach allows employees to choose spaces where they can work best and does not require the presence of traditional office equipment and furniture.
