Yorko weighs 420 pounds but cannot get her HMO, Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana to pay for bariatric surgery which may alleviate her obesity. Physicians Health Plan denied treatment at the Bariatric Treatment Center by saying that the surgery was not medically necessary. Yorko's appeal was denied. Attorney Walter Lindstrom's Obesity Law & Advocacy Center in San Diego, California, accepted her case and was able to reverse previous rulings. Yorko has now sucessfully had the surgert.
