Bournonville: the sequel

Article Abstract:

The Royal Danish Ballet staged a second Bournonville Festival from Mar 28-Apr 4, 1992. The first festival had taken place in 1979 and both were excellent. The second festival was extremely well attended and the publication of several catalogues accompanied the event. The focus of the second festival was the 150th anniversary of the ballet 'Napoli's' premiere. A new production of this ballet restoring the second act with its Blue Grotto Scene was presented. Other ballets performed at the festival are briefly reviewed.

Harald Lander, Valborg Borchsenius, and August Bournonville, or how to behave in Bournonville's world

Article Abstract:

Harald Lander, who became artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet in 1932, along with Valborg Borchsenius created the August Bournonville tradition, writing down the staging, the steps and mime and also adapting them to a modern audience. Lander and Borchsenius established the productions that became the models for the rest of the century, the ones subsequent producers had to make up their minds about.
