Article Abstract:

Former East German residents are still coping with an unfamiliar legal system four years after the reunification of Germany in 1991. As East German citizens prior to reunification, they did not have an independent judiciary as most legal functions were under the state. There has also been a shortage of lawyers in the new eastern provinces, particularly those with experience in the German legal system, as a result of the increased need for legal services in these areas. This has led to stiff competition among German lawyers serving new provinces of the east. Such lack of available legal services is seen to delay the processing of land and property claims by victims of expropriation.

Article Abstract:

Costume designer Remy Charlip believes there was a strong interrelationship between abstract expressionism and the works of John Cage, Merce Cunningham and himself. John Cage was a disciplined genius who overcame many negative experiences. Also impacting Cage and the lives of other artists was the reality of being homosexual during the McCarthy era and their membership in Avant Garde art circles.
