St. Petersburg

Article Abstract:

The Kirov Ballet performed Giselle on July 1, 2004, as part of the Maryinsky Theater's White Nights Festival of ballet and opera. Vasili Scherbakov has shaped an iconoclastic approach to the role of Albrecht, whereas his Giselle, Natalia Sologub, has supported him magnanimously and sounded new depths in her expressive possibilities and Ekaterina Kondaurova has provided a formidable adversary in her own debut as Myrtha.

Gillian Murphy

Article Abstract:

American Ballet Theatre's (ABT's) 2004 Metropolitan Opera season has provided the most interesting dancing the company has offered in quite some time as it was strengthened by its acquisition of Monique Meunier and Veronika Part in 2002. Gillian Murphy joined American Ballet Theatre in 1996 and she is shaping up as a substantive chapter in ABT's ongoing saga of reinvention.
