Stiefel at ABT

Article Abstract:

Ethan Stiefel's talents as a classical dancer were highlighted in his inaugural season with the American Ballet Theatre at the Metropolitan Opera House in the spring of 1997. However, the company failed to commission any new work to mark the advent of such a talented classical dancer, instead featuring Stiefel in repertory roles. Stiefel appeared as the Jester in 'Cinderella,' as Franz in 'Coppelia,' as Solor in 'La Bayadere,' the Bluebird in 'Sleeping Beauty' and performed a complete 'Swan Lake' and complete 'Apollo.'

Leg men

Article Abstract:

Issues regarding the modern dance choroeographer Merce Cunningham's increasing preference for ballet-trained performers over the decades are discussed. This avant-garde choreographer appreciated legs that could adopt a rhythmic idea and mobilize it, allowing the performer's active effects to have almost as much power as his static poses.
