Terra incognita: mapping new territory in dance and "cultural studies"

Article Abstract:

Proposals are presented for incorporating cultural, ethnological and sociological fieldwork to dance training and academic study. Subjects recommended for incorporation include ethnographies of audiences and institutions, middle-class aesthetic norms and trends, and interdisciplinary approaches.

Consciousness matters

Suggestions are presented for developing the phenomenology of dance research. The include dance as a method of knowing, exploration of how consciousness links humans to the non-human world, and the validity of both shared and personal experiences.
