Vladimir Vasiliev: plans for the Bolshoi

Article Abstract:

Vladimir Vasiliev hopes to base the future repertory of the Bolshoi Ballet on choreographic achievements previously unknown in Russia. The Bolshoi and Russia as a whole existed during the Soviet period in a closed world and did not dance any Western ballets. The season starting in 1996 will see a new production of John Cranko's 'The Taming of the Shrew.' Vasiliev feels revivals of the full-length Soviet ballets would be pointless.

Les etoiles

Article Abstract:

The Paris Opera Ballet has been rejuvenated with a wider repertory and skillful soloists and principals. During the 1960s and 1970s, the institution suffered from a lack of creative power and excitement. Although it still faces obstacles such as financial insecurity, the Paris Opera Ballet has galvanized itself by performing new as well as classic works.

A conversation with Diana Vishneva

Article Abstract:

Diana Vishneva, long-time ballerina with the Kirov Ballet, feels it most important for her to find her own interpretation of a role while on-stage. She also talks about how difficult it is for Kirov dancers to do Balanchine because their style is much slower. She remarks on Balanchine's speed and praises his musical choreography.
