X Prize ends in desert drama

Article Abstract:

SpaceShip One (SS1) designer Burt Rutan and his team geared up to snag the $10 million Ansari X Prize by flying to 100 km altitude twice within a two weeks span. Rutan and his team successfully demonstrated a new human spacecraft, a new propulsion system, and a new high-altitude airborne launch platform.

The U.S. President George W. Bush has approved National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Goddard Space Flight Center to lead a robotic lunar mission in 2008. President Bush-inspired initiative anticipates a human return to the lunar surface by 2015, and no later than 2020.
