The future of ponycars is in doubt, because safety, emissions, and fuel-economy standards are becoming more strict. General Motors and Ford are considering design changes to make ponycars more efficient. Trucks and sport-utility vehicles are an alternative to ponycars.

Chrysler Motors Corp introduced three new concept vehicles at the 1993 North American International Auto Show: the Chrysler Thunderbolt, Jeep Ecco and Plymouth Prowler. Details of the three models are discussed.
