A summary of new cars and upgrades to existing models is provided for each carmaker, from Acura to Volvo. Several engineering highlights are also described, including: the new BMW aluminum in-line six engines; Cadillac's lumbar massage seats; and the Dodge intercooled turbo-diesel Ram six.

Brief descriptions of the many new designs and upgrades that will be offered by the various 1997 import car models, are presented. Among the new developments it appears that sports cars are back in vogue, as witnessed by the new Acura 2.2CL, Jaguar XK8, Honda Prelude, and Hyundai Tiburon.
