Article Abstract:

Surround sound systems have speakers front and back in the car of which most of them are basically '5.1-channel' setups, with separate signals feeding two speakers by the back seat and three across the front of the car, plus a subwoofer that carries only bass. These systems also have circuits that derive the separate signal channels from broadcasts and recordings and, increasingly often, disc players that handle DVDs as well as CDs.

The Radio Data System (RDS) is a car radio that displays information on the program being broadcast on each station. It also makes traffic announcements and sets the clock to the correct time. RDS radios will be available in 1998 models of Cadillac Seville STS and optional in Porsche, Caddys and Audis.
