The college bowl of race-car design: RIT kisses its sister

Article Abstract:

The 1996 Formula SAE student race-car design competition was dominated by RIT, unfortunately their design was penalized in the judging for rules infractions and failed to win the competition. The penalties were given because the car design was not new and not entirely built by the students.

The Department of Transportation may have outlived its usefulness as a regulatory agency. The automobile industry and consumers' demands have changed since the agency was created in the 1960s and market forces alone can push improvements in safety and performance along.
