Most of the drivers who participated in automobile racing over dry lake beds in California during the 1940s and the 1950s were able to use their experience to make a name in the automobile business. These include Stu Hilborn and Vic Edelbrock who manufacture fuel injection systems and engines, respectively.

The Duesenberg W-24

The history of the Duesenberg W-24 multi-valve engine is discussed. The engine originated in the 1920s when Horace E. Dodge asked Fred and August Duesenberg to design a marine engine that could defeat all other racing boats. The engine featured 24 cylinders arranged in a 'W' pattern.
