The myth of our downsized cars

A recent report in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Technology Review underestimates the average weight of cars today as 2,500 pounds. The 2,935-lb Pontiac Grand Am typifies the average car today, which is not much lighter than the bulkier cars of the 1970s.
