Article Abstract:
The Fair Credit and Charge Card Disclosure Act of 1987 has passed the House of Representatives and is now before the Senate. The bill requires credit card issuers to disclose information about terms, conditions, and rates. Written materials must disclose the annual interest percentage rate or the means of determining variable rates. The Act also requires disclosure of any annual or other fees such as account maintenance or monthly charge for activity during the billing period. The date by which or within which a bill must be paid to avoid service charges must be stated. Rules governing telephone solicitations and promotional displays are also addressed.
