Opportunities and advances: the CPA Passport Program

Article Abstract:

The transition from university student to full-time employee is often difficult and unsatisfactory. The Australian Society of Certified Public Accountants' Passport Program helps alleviate the transition between study and work. The work experience component of the Passport Program allows candidates to spend two weeks with leading companies in commerce and industry, public practice, and the public sector.

Article Abstract:

Accountant Heidi Di Santo decided to become a motivational speaker after having chronic fatigue syndrome. She wanted to dispense information on healthy living to individuals who worked long hours, ate junk food, did not exercise and did not relax. Di Santo overcame her fear of public speaking to become one of Australia's most respected speakers in 1999.

Victoria, Australia, Auditor-General Wayne Cameron has been reestablishing control over audits which had previously been given to private companies. He intends to review the practice of permitting private firms to carry out audits which he suggests is not always the most cost effective method.
