Companies that try to communicate their environmental policies and goals should approach the task in a consistent manner, should try to maintain credibility, and should try to explain how the policies are relevant to business success.

Australian companies have been slow to adopt sustainable development goals, but there are several reasons to expect that this will change. One reason companies are expected to show a commitment to environmental issues is that failing to do so may have an impact on their ability to conduct business because of public opposition. Adoption of sustainable development goals also reduces corporate liabilities and leads to better resource use.
