Article Abstract:

In March 2001, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) announced its intention to reduce the excessive hours worked by Australians. A potential "reasonable hours" contract clause will cover total hours worked by full- or part-time workers, number of hours worked without stopping, fatigue potential, and exposure to health and safety hazards while working.

Victim support: a bill introduced in the NSW Parliament will entitle victims of violent crime to unpaid leave

Article Abstract:

Both permanent and casual staff who have been the victim of violent crime will be permitted to take unpaid leave to attend court proceedings relating to the crime under the NSW Parliament's Industrial Relations Amendment (Leave for Victims of Crime) Bill 2001. The legislation also provides for leave for parents or guardians of child victims.
