A gut-to-pharynx/tail switch in embryonic expression of the Caenorhabditis elegans ges-1 gene centers on two GATA sequences

Article Abstract:

The control circuit for the Caenorhabditis elegans ges-1 gene (gut esterase no. 1) seems to be quite complex for an apparently nonessential gene expressed early in a clonal embryonic lineage. The study analyses the sequence needed for tissue-specific gene regulation by injection of deleted or mutated constructs of the ges-1 gene into a ges-1 (null) strain of worms and using esterase histochemistry to assay heritably changed embryos. The ges-1 GATA region exhibits properties of both a tissue-specific transcriptional enhancer and a transcriptional silencer. The gene may be differentially activated in the gut and repressed in MS cell derivatives.

Knockdown of spalt function by RNAi causes de-repression of Hox genes and homeotic transformations in the crustacean Artemia franciscana

Article Abstract:

The changes that occur in the homeotic genes and Hox genes due to cutting off the function of the spalt gene using ribonucleic acid interference in Artemia franciscana are studied.
