A mechanism for translationally coupled mRNA turnover: interaction between the Poly(A) tail and a c-fos RNA coding determinant via a protein complex

Article Abstract:

A mechanism for translationally coupled mRNA turnover is discussed. An interaction between the Poly(A) tail and a c-fos RNA coding determinant via a protein complex has been found. The function of major-protein-coding-region determinant of instability (mCRD) has been found to depend on its distance from the poly(A) tail.

Structure of the Rho transcription terminator: mechanism of mRNA recognition and helicase loading

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that the RNA/DNA helicase or Rho factor forms a hexameric ring encompassing two RNA binding sites as seen in both free and nucleotide bound states of the protein. Crystal structure shows that the distance between subunits is 12 angstroms and can accommodate single-stranded RNA.

RNAi: double-stranded RNA directs the ATP-dependent cleavage of mRNA at 21 to 23 nucleotide intervals

Article Abstract:

RNA interference (RNAi) and the molecular mechanism that is behind it and which has been studied using a recently developed Drosophila in vitro system are discussed. It has been found that double-stranded RNA directs the ATP-dependent cleavage of mRNA at 21-23 nucleotide intervals.
