A microRNA meditates EGF receptor signaling and promotes photoreceptor differentiation in the drosophila eye

Article Abstract:

A microRNa is a part of mechanism that makes cells sensitive to signals in the Drosophila eye. Expression of miR-7 is activated in cells as they begin differentiating into photoreceptors and this is dependent on EGF receptor signaling that triggers ERK-mediated degradation of the transcription factor Yan.

Silence from within: Endogenous siRNAs and miRNAs

Article Abstract:

Studies have uncovered new examples of RNA silencing in controlling endogenous gene expression and have revealed novel mechanisms of downregulation. It is found that the two main categories of small RNAs that lead directly into RNA silencing are- MicroRNAs and short interfering RNAs.

A Dicer-2-dependent 80S complex cleaves targeted mRNAs during RNAi in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Dicer-2 (Dcr-2) is required to form three distinct complexes R1, R2 and R3. A study on Dcr-2 reveals that Dcr-2 not only initiates RNAi phase but also settles into RISC (RNA induced silencing complex) along with siRNAs.
