A ribonucleic antiterminator sequence (RAT) and a distinct palindrome are both involved in sucrose induction of the Bacillus subtilis sacXY regulatory operon

Article Abstract:

Stimulation of the Bacillus subtilis sacXY operon by the antiterminator proteins, SacY and SacT, in the presence of sucrose requires the activity of the sacXY ribonucleic antiterminator sequence (RAT) and a downstream palindrome. Deletion of the palindrome and mutations in RAT suppress the activation of sacXY. The activation of sacXY by SacT requires low sucrose levels while activation by SacY requires high sucrose levels. SacT activates sacXY more than SacY.

The genes controlling sucrose utilization in Clostridium beijerinckii NCIMB 8052 constitute an operon

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the isolation and characterization of a sucrose-utilization operon from Clostridium beijerinckii NCIMB 8052, and describe the genetic organization and transcriptional regulation of the genes. Results indicated that the disruption of the scrR gene led to a constitutive transcription of the upstream scrA gene, showing that scrR encodes a transcriptional repressor that acts at the scrA operator sequence.

The sequence of the trp operon of Bacillus subtilis 168 (trpC2) revisited

Article Abstract:

Sequence map of trpC operon region of Bacillus subtilis168 (trpC2) is compared with the published sequence of strain W168 to clarify anomalies in trpC cistron sequence. Results show differences between the two, some scattered along the length and others clustered around trpC and trpF cistrons.
