API Listeria, a new and promising one-day system to identify Listeria isolates

Article Abstract:

A new API system, API Listeria, developed by BioMerieux to identify Listeria isolates wasevaluated. The system was used to screen 646 Listeria strains as well as 31 bacteria belonging to other gram-positive genera. API Listeria was able to identify 85% of the Listeria strains up to the species and subspecies level within 24 hours. If used in conjunction with another test, the ability to distinguish Listeria strains is appreciably increased. Because of its speed, simplicity and low cost, API Listeria is a promising tool for food and environmental microbiology.

Division of Listeria monocytogenes serovar 4b strains into two groups by PCR and restriction enzyme analysis

Article Abstract:

A combination of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction enzyme analysis can divide the strains of Listeria monocytogenes into two subtypes. The basis of the division is the sequence of hyl gene that codes for the virulence factor listeriolysin O. The restriction enzyme AluI(Promega) splits the PCR product into two fragments which can be separated by gel electrophoresis, producing two distinct groups of strains. One group has 37 strains, while the other group contains 96 strains.

Assessment of the accuprobe Listeria monocytogenes culture identification reagent kit for rapid colony confirmationn and its application in various enrichment broths

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of a commercially available kit for test detection and identification procedures for the genus Listeria is discussed. Experiments involved a colony confirmation test and different selective and nonselective broths. The minimal detection limit in physiological saline was also established. The suitability of the probe for the colony confirmation of Listeria monocytogenes growing on agar plates was shown by the study.
