P-element-induced male recombination can be produced in Drosophila melanogaster by combining end-deficient elements in trans

Article Abstract:

The combination of target P elements at homologous sites with transposase proteins as catalysts in the Drosophila melanogaster results in the formation of male recombination at very high rates. The male recombination is generally absent in the Drosophila species. The combination process produces these elements by the in situ deletion mechanism of certain insertion and deletion elements.

Hypomorphic mutations in the larval photokinesis a (lphA) gene have stage-specific effects on visual system function in Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

Two mutant alleles which define the larval photokinesis A(lphA) gene are isolated and characterized in the Drosophila melanogaster. This gene is involved in the functioning of the lateral vision mechanisms in the Drosophila. The Drosophila larvae which express the lphA mutations are negatively photokinetic but respond to white light.
