Ac-induced instability at the Xanthophyllic locus of Tomato
Article Abstract:
Researchers used the totally superior mutation Xanthophyllic-1 (Xa-1) as a whole plant marker gene to identify gluomic instability resulting from Ac elements in transgenic tomatoes. They crossed transgenic Ac-possessing tomato plants, varied in the placement and number of their Ac factors, to Xa-1 tester lines, and scored F1 progeny for deviant somatic sectoring. Only four plants of the 800 test and control F1 progeny examined had abnormally high levels of somatic sectors.

Interval mapping of high growth (hg), a major locus that increases weight gain in mice
Article Abstract:
A genetic map is developed for the map-based cloning of the high growth (hg) locus in mice. The hg locus is involves in the increase in body weight and size of the mice. The genetic map is developed by mapping the 403F2 from C57BL/6J-hghg XCAST/EiJ cross. The mapping reveals that the maximum likelihood position of hg is at the chromosome 10 marker D10Mit41in the F2 females. In the males it was at 1.5cM distal D10Mit41.

Complete sequence of a sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) mitochondrial genome: early establishment of the vertebrate genome organization
Article Abstract:
The determination of the complete sequence of the mitochondrial genome of the sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus reveals that it consists of genes for 13 proteins, 22 tRNAs and two rRNAs. The genome is 16,201 bp in length. The transcriptional polarities of the genes that code the 13 proteins are identical to those of the polarities of chordate mtDNAs.
