Albino and pink-eyed dilution mutants in the Russian dwarf hamster Phodopus campbelli

Article Abstract:

The color mutant genes albino (c) and the pink eyed dilution (p) in the Russian dwarf hamster species Phodopus campbelli are inherited as recessive to normal. Linkage tests between c and p give negative results, which contrast with linkages between homologous alleles in other rodent species. A difference in the chromosome number fails to offer an explanation for the absence of linkage. The possible absence of the pink eye-dilution allele at the P locus or the presence of the c and p loci on the same chromosome with loose linkages are probable explanations for the absence of linkages.

Microphthalmia: a morphogenetic lethal mutation of the campbelli hamster (Phodopus campbelli)

Article Abstract:

Microphthalmia, a new mutation of the campbelli hamster that is controlled by the Mi incomplete dominant autosomal gene, was described in the study. The homozygote had pure white fur all over the body and had a smaller body size. It is characterized by the loss of incisors and by small eyes with unopened lids. Its individual bones showed dwarfism. On the other hand, the heterozygote had dark markings on its dorsal coat and on its head, back and rump. Its color was similar to that of the wild type, and its pupil and iris are black with reddish tinge.

Tyrosinase and Tyrosinase Related Protein 1 Alleles Specify Domestic Cat Coat Color Phenotypes of the albino and brown Loci

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that feline tyrosinase specific nucleotide variants influence the burmese and siamese alleles of the albino locus, along with tyrosinase related protein 1 as specifying the cinnamon and chocolate alleles of the brown locus.
