New genetic data on Amerindians from the Paraguayan Chaco

Article Abstract:

Genetic studies hve been conducted of the Ayoreo and Lengua Indians from the Paraguayan Chaco. The results point to the distinctiveness of the Ayoreo, and of the Chaco as a distinct biological region.

Protein genetic studies among the Tupi-Monde Indians of the Brazilian Amazonia

Article Abstract:

Researchers studied a sample of 417 people belonging to three Tupi-Monde speaking tribes in relation to 26 genetic protein systems. When results are combined with 10 other Tup tribes, two clear geographical groupings of southeastern and northwestern can be discerned. The study revealed that the populations are probably too similar among themselves, which blurs finer relationships.

Albumin genetic variability in South America: population distribution and molecular studies

Article Abstract:

There are some genetic variants of human serum albumin in South America and their distribution is not random. A total of 5,020 people living in two southern Brazilian states were screened. Two variants of human serum albumin were found: Nagasaki 2 and Tradate 2. These occurred in Passo Fundo and Vera Cruz. The Porto Alegre 2 variant was found in northeastern Brazil.
