Analysis of cumene (isopropylbenzene) degradation genes from Pseudomonas fluorescens IP01

Article Abstract:

The cumD gene, that encodes 2-hydroxy-6-oxo-7-methylocta-2,4-dienoic acid hydrolase, is responsible for the cumene degrading activity of Pseudomonas fluorescens IP01. Three open reading frames, ORF11, ORF12, and ORF13, have been identified in cumD, using polymerase chain reaction technique. The gene organization, size, and homology of corresponding enzymes of the cumD gene cluster are similar to those of the bph gene cluster from Pseudomonas sp. strain LB400 and the tod gene cluster from P. putida F1.

Incorporation of molecular oxygen and water during enzymatic oxidation of cyanide by Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 11764

Article Abstract:

Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 11764 oxidizes cyanide to form carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3) by incorporating an oxygen (O) atom from both water and molecular oxygen. The oxidation reaction is catalyzed by a monooxygenase and requires the presence of oxygen and NADP. Monooxygenation of cyanide forms an oxygenated intermediate that is then hydrolyzed. An O atom from water is included during the hydrolysis. CO2 accumulates in the cells as an end product while NH3 is assimilated.

Accumulation of polyhydroxyalkanoic acid containing large amounts of unsaturated monomers in Pseudomonas fluorescens BM07 utilizing saccharides and its inhibition by 2-bromooctanoic acid

Article Abstract:

2-bromooctanoic acid can inhibit the synthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoic acid (PHA) by Pseudomonas fluorescens BM07 without also inhibiting cell growth. It is also much cheaper than cerulenin, which inhibits both PHA synthesis and cell growth.
