Molecular analysis of the pmo (particulate methane monooxygenase) operons from two type II methanotrophs

Article Abstract:

Researchers report the complete DNA sequence of pmo genes from two type II methanotrophs, Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b and Methylocystis sp. strain M. The sequences are 84% similar and 75% similar to a type I methanotroph, Methylococcus capsulatus Bath.

Analysis of methane monooxygenase genes in mono lake suggests that increased methane oxidation activity may correlate with a change in methanotroph community structure

Article Abstract:

Mono lake is an alkaline hypersaline lake that supports high methane oxidation rates. Stratification of mono lake resulted in variation of aerobic methane oxidation rates with depth.

The methanol dehydrogenase structural gene mxaF and its use as a functional gene probe for methanotrophs and methylotrophs

Article Abstract:

Specific DNA regions of methanotrophs have been studied to find out if mxaF probes can discriminate these regions from that of methylotrophs. The mxaF probe is a methanol dehydrogenase structural gene that has been amplified using polymerase chain reaction. Amino acid sequence of the gene from samples of methanotrophs and methylotrophs have been sequenced to find out the relation of cloned mxaF genes from natural mxaFgenes.
